Anambra Introduces Mobile Library

In a bid to boost reading culture among pupils and students, the Anambra State Library Board, has introduced mobile library services in schools in the state.

Mrs Nkem Osigwe, the Director of the board, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on Wednesday in Onitsha, Anambra.

Osigwe said that three schools, each from primary and secondary, would be presented with library books, which would be returned forthnightly, to extend the gesture to other schools.

She said the board would organise annual reading competitions among schools, both at primary and secondary levels, to ensure a good reading culture.

The Director, however, urged students to avail themselves the opportunity of using books from the public library to enrich their knowlegde.

She urged parents to encourage their children to improve their reading habits.

“The present practice where our pupils and students now read only for examinations is detrimental to the educational development of the state.

“To imbibe and revive the now declining reading culture, the board is mobilising some schools in Onitsha as starting points in its present campaign,’’ Osigwe said.

According to her, the board’s motive is to ensure that the current declining reading culture will be checked to make the youths better trained and informed.
