Anambra approves N16.5bn road contracts

Anambra State Government yesterday said it had approved road and hotel contracts worth about N16.5 billion.

The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Chief Joe-Martins Uzodike, who disclosed this at the post-State Executive Council meeting press briefing, also announced the approval of N1.8 million for the development of library, laboratory and sports in each of the 450 secondary schools in the state.

This, Uzodike said, was in addition to the 450 vehicles the government planned to supply to all the public and the returned mission secondary schools.

Giving the breakdown, the commissioner said N1.9 billion was approved for the construction of Ikenga Shopping Mall and infrastructure in Awka with the completion period of 12 months, N1.9 billion for the construction of Agulu Lake Hotel, and N2.3 billion for the construction of the 17 kilometre Okpuno – Urum – Amanuke – Achalla Road, expected to be completed within 12 months.

Uzodike added that N8.7 billion contract was awarded for the construction of 27 kilometres Amansea – Ndiukwuenu – Awa – Ufuma Road with completion period of nine months, N1.3 billion was approved for the construction of the Federal Government College, Nise and Akabo – Mbaukwu Haba River – Ukunu Road project bearing completion period of 16 months.

According to him, government also approved N905,097,375 for the repairs of the eroded portions of the Onitsha-Atani – Osamala – Ogwuikpele Road.

The commissioner, who disclosed that government would supply 20 computer sets to each of the public and mission secondary schools, said 10 computer sets would also be supplied to each of the public and returned primary schools in Anambra State.

Uzodike disclosed that the State Executive Council meeting, which was presided over by Governor Peter Obi, gave immediate approval for the outlined contracts and supply of the 450 vehicles, computers, as well as funds for development of library, laboratory and sports in schools.
